January 1861-South secedes
When Abraham Lincoln was elected president south Carolina posed a threat to the united states. They were going to call a sate convention and secede from the north.Mississippi, Florida, Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, and Texas secede and four more were going to also which would make 11, Virginia, Arkansas, Tennessee, and North Carolina
February 1861-South creates a government
The secede states make there own confederate government Jefferson Davis was named president until elections were held
April 1861-Attack at fort Sumter
the battle at fort Sumter was the first battle of the civil war and caused four more states to join the confederacy
June 1861-Four slave states join the union
Delaware, Kentucky, Maryland, and Missouri do not join the confederacy and stay with the union
January 1865- Fall of the confederacy
problems in the south caused alot of issues in the south including starvation and low supplies which made the soldiers leave general lee's forces
February 1865-A chance for peace falls
Confederate president Jefferson Davis tries to have a conference with president Lincoln to discuss a treaty but Lincoln refuses and the conference never happens
April 1865- surrender at Appomattox Courthouse.
Generals lee's forces were surrounded and lee soon called a surrender after they agreed to terms and lee's men went home and they surrendered they weapons
April 1865- The Assassination of President Lincoln.
on April 14 president Lincoln was watching a play and he was shot in the back of the head by an actor named john Wilkes booth who was trying to get revenge for the confederate defeat. Booth was then shot by a union soldier
April-May-Final surrenders among Confederate troops
Confederate troops were defeating between April and may and Jefferson Davis was captured in Georgia on may 10
